About UsThorpe Wood golf course was developed as one of the first major leisure projects in the expansion of Peterborough and has been recognised as the leading Pay-as-you-Play course in the country. The course was designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas, who also designed the Belfry, and was constructed to a very high standard. It challenges and rewards golfers of all levels and abilities. The gently undulating Par 73 course with a length of 7086 yards from the tiger tees is maintained in superb condition and never closes, whatever the weather. We have recently introduced guidelines to improve the speed of play following the lead of The St. Andrew's Links Trust. Slow play is defined as "play which fails to meet the required speed, causing interruptions in the flow of play, thereby causing undue delays and annoyance to golfers playing behind"! We hope that all our golfers, whether regular players, club members, society members or casual visitors, will become aware of our efforts to improve the pace of play to an acceptable level. Our pace of play has been set at 4 hrs. 5 mins. for a fourball playing from the yellow tees. Our over-riding principle is that consideration should be shown to others on the course at all times and managing the pace of play plays a major part in this. Golf Societies are very welcome here at Thorpe Wood with catering facilities available at the adjoining Woodman pub/restaurant. Meals and drinks are available seven days a week at normal pub opening times. Thorpe Wood also has a custom fit facility for a wide range of clubs. For more details contact us.

Our very experienced team of greenkeepers under Michael Wood can be seen around the course from first to last light making sure that the course, the fairways, the greens are all in the best possible condition. During September and October some work may be in progress making it necessary to use the occasional temporary green. Our aim is to ensure that any such work causes the minimum incovenience. |
